Olympic Games, World Cup, Euro may be the only names you would quote if asked but there are hundreds of international sport events all over the world taking place every year. These European and worldwide events are in constant need for international volunteers who take care of participants, help with communications or fans coming from all over the world.
short term intense multicultural experience, gaining event management skills, meet new people and have a lot of fun.
The one to know
I can benefit of it if
I am an active young person, motivated to volunteer in the context of sport events
I can leave for
The length of the event. International events usually last from 1 week to 1 month.
I can go
All over the world.
I will receive
Usually accommodation, food, goodies, clothes, etc. My transportation may sometimes be covered. Some events will provide a training programme.
When I come back, I’ll have gained
Professional skills in targeted fields (event management, communication, etc.)
Friendship with like-minded people from all over the world
Confidence to undertake longer-term mobility
I need to prepare
According to the scale of the event: If I want to volunteer in the Olympics or the World Cup, I should think about it a few years in advance. Opportunities are limitless but I need to do some personal research as this is not part of a structured programme.
For help I should contact
National sport federations to ask information about international events.
University sport is a field where volunteering can be especially interesting. Many events are taking place very regularly (Universiades, World University Championships, European Universities Games, etc.) and will allow you to volunteer with other young people.
